Energy Team to carry out Community Energy Survey
Kilcommon Rearcross Energy Team is funding a Community Energy Researcher to create a “heat map” for the parish. Over the next 2-3 weeks James O’Connor, a graduate from LIT in Environmental & Natural Resource Management, will be visiting houses in Kilcommon and Rearcross Villages, as well as local community facilities, to carry out the survey.
Why a Community Energy Survey?
In 2015, the Energy Team established a community fund to support energy related projects in the parish. The Community Energy Survey is the first project supported by the Energy Team. The Purpose of the survey is as follows:
• to measure the energy use of the villages of Kilcommon and Rearcross
• to identify energy improvements that could be made in Kilcommon and Rearcross villages, and in the parish
• to recommend projects that could be carried out which would reduce energy bills, create local jobs and make the area a better place to live in.
A copy of the survey form is available using this short link: http://www.bit.ly/krheatmap or by contacting James on 087 7639836 or email jamesoconnor617@gmail.comThe survey takes just 10 minutes to complete.
Project Background
Kilcommon Rearcross Energy Team is a local group set up in 2013, with assistance from North Tipperary LEADER Partnership, to save money and create jobs locally through funding energy efficiency work in the parish.
Kilcommon Rearcross Energy Team is part of Energy Communities Tipperary Co-operative (ECTC), a cooperative set up by 4 community energy teams from Drombane Upperchurch, Lorrha Rathcabbin, Birdhill and Kilcommon Rearcross. In 2014 and 2015, this group secured funding to insulate homes as well as installing energy efficient stoves and boilers. These grants were provided by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) Better Energy Communities scheme. For 2015, ECTC have received E1.4 million euro of funding to improve 175 houses in 8 parishes across North Tipperary, including Kilcommon/Rearcross.
This scheme is assisted by North Tipperary LEADER Partnership and Tipperary Energy Agency to stimulate the local economy.
